The Maidenhead Spartans completed an amazing weekend at the 2025 BSF Co-Ed League Nationals with a victory in the Silver Category.
Having qualified for the championships through winning the WMSL 2024 Division 2 title, the team made a strong start in the Silver/Bronze category for Division 2 and below League Teams. The two day competitions pits all the 12 qualifying teams in the Bronze/Silver group together in two groups of 6. After the first day. the top 3 in each group go forward to Silver and the bottom 3 to Bronze.
The Spartans completed the first day with a 5-0 record, including wins over Base Jumpers from London, Valley Wet Sox and Red Sox both from Cardiff, Chichester Falcons and the Barflies from Manchester.
Sunday saw the team complete the round-robin phase with games against the top three teams from the opposite group. An early win against Battitude from London, put the team on course for a semi-final. That was followed by an encounter with the Hurricanes, also from Cardiff, who stop the winning run forcing a 7-7 draw. The final game before the semi-finals saw the Spartans earn an 7th win from 8 with 20-13 win over the Towcester Tigers from Milton Keynes.
With the results in, the Spartans would again play the Tigers in the semi-final. At this stage of the competition, all the games before go out the window, a 7-1 record is nothing if you loose in the Semi-final. This provide to be the case as the Tiger put up a strong fight and made this an really close gap, that the Spartans edged 16-14 and a rematch with the only team to stop the Spartans all weekend.
The Silver final got off to a flying start with the Hurricanes racing into a 6-0 lead, before the Spartans responded with 10 to lead 10-6 after 1 inning. This had the makings of a very high scoring game, but both teams then settled down to a more closely fought contest. After 16 runs in the first inning, the teams manage combined for just 10 more across the remaining innings, with the Spartans scoring 7 to the Hurricanes 3 to win the title 17-9.
It was an amazing team performance over the two days to win the title and earn a place in the 2026 Nationals in the next category up, Gold/Platinum.
