The MSC Under-16 team travelled to Coventry on March 1st to play in their very first event. 12 players traveled to play. We split these into two teams for the morning activities, before we came together as regular team to play the afternoon.
The 6-a-side format in the morning saw 6 teams play each other. We were the Red team and the White team. Red team won 2 games, while the Whites won 1. game, meaning we can 4th and 5th overall in that competition.
The afternoon was a more familiar 9-a-side format with 4 teams Competing. In our very first game we beat the Celts 8-3. That run didn’t continue, as we lost 6-0 and 5-1 to the Southern Team and Northern Team respectively. We finished 3rd in the group competition which put us into the 3/4 placing game against the Celts again.
That game ended 5-5 to leave us both join 3rd overall. This was an amazing achievement for this group of players. Most having not played a competitive game of Softball, left alone Fastpitch softball.
Saturday was the culmination of two years work to recruit and train the team. The event age restrictions meant we couldn’t take everyone in the club, but those that did had an amazing day and learnt a lot.
